How do I assign super contributions to employees and automatically include them in every pay run?

Assign super contributions to an employee and automatically include them in their pay runs.

Written by Kavya

This feature allows you to set up recurring super contributions for an employee, such as salary sacrifice, so they are automatically included when a pay run is created.

Step 1 – Click on Employees

Step 2 – Click on the relevant employee's name

Step 3 – Click on the Pay Rates tab

Step 4 – Click on the Super Contributions tab

Step 5 – Click on Add New Super Contribution

Enter the required details for the super contribution:

  • Super Contribution Name – Enter a name for the contribution, such as Salary Sacrifice.

  • Contribution Type – Select the appropriate contribution type, such as Salary Sacrifice.

  • Calculation Basis – Select how the contribution should be calculated, such as a percentage of gross earnings.
Fixed Amount: A fixed amount will be added each period.
Percentage of Gross Earnings: Set a percentage amount to be calculated from the total gross earnings
Percentage of OTE: Set a percentage amount to be calculated from the ordinary time earnings. ( Includes base salary or wages for ordinary hours - ATO category as Ordinary, all paid leaves, Commissions & Bonuses)

  • Enter the Amount or percentage

  • Tick the box, Recurring, to automatically include the deduction in each pay run
Start Date & End Date (Optional)

  • Set Cap Limit
Maximum total amount to deduct. Stops automatically once this limit is reached.

  • Set Preserved Earnings
The minimum net pay the employee must take home. Deduction adjusts if it would drop pay below this.

  • Start Date – Optionally select the date from which the contribution should apply.

  • End Date – Optionally select the date on which the contribution should stop.

Step 6 – Click Add

The super contribution will be assigned to the employee.

Step 7 – Save the changes

Once saved, the recurring super contribution will be automatically included when a new pay run is created for the employee.

Example

For an employee who has agreed to salary sacrifice 10% of their gross earnings:

  • Super Contribution Name: Salary sacrifice

  • Contribution Type: Salary Sacrifice

  • Calculation Basis: Percentage of Gross Earnings

  • Percentage: 10%

  • Recurring: Enabled

The 10% salary sacrifice contribution will then be automatically included in the employee's applicable pay runs.

Note: Review the contribution settings before finalising the pay run to ensure the contribution amount and applicable dates are correct.

Process a pay run.

After you've set up the employee's super salary sacrifice, you can process the pay run.

  1. Go to Pay runs > create a new pay run

  2. The super salary sacrifice will be calculated automatically.
